CONNOLLY, Ireland - April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Organised by Ennis Town Council, the Ennis Tidy Towns Committee and other voluntary organisations, in conjunction with An Taisce’s National Spring Clean, the “Clean-Up Day” will take place between 10.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m.

The event will involve volunteers coming together to clean up approach roads to Ennis, along with green areas, footpaths, roads and streets in both residential areas and housing estates.

Model and National Spring Clean ambassador Sarah McGovern will join the Mayor of Ennis Councillor Peter Considine in O’Connell Square on Wednesday to call on members of the community to lend their support to the event.

Mayor Considine said: “The National Spring Clean campaign is now in its 15th year and it is a testament to the community spirit all over Ireland that the participation rates have continued to grow year on year. The Clean-Up Day being organised in Ennis will bring members of the community together to improve their local environment and I am encouraging people to take part in the event, no matter how big or small their contribution might be.”

Clean-up kits are available from An Taisce or can be obtained from the offices of Ennis Town Council. Any participating groups should register with the Council and forward a contact name and mobile number to Customer Services, Ennis Town Council on 6828040 so that bags of litter collected on the day can be picked up."

The National Spring Clean is Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative organised by An Taisce and funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. The campaign runs throughout the month of April every year with clean-up events taking place in towns and communities all over the country. Over 500,000 volunteers participated in clean-ups throughout the country last April. Further information is available from www.nationalspringclean.org.

Meanwhile, to celebrate 15 years of National Spring Clean, An Taisce is also searching for Ireland’s local heroes who have demonstrated their commitment to their local communities by organising anti-litter events. Spring cleaners can nominate their local heroes by posting a picture and details of why your local hero has been suggested on www.facebook.com/nationalspringclean. An Taisce’s National Spring Clean Hero 2013 will be selected during April and will win a Spring Break in the Kilkenny Ormond Hotel.
