FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - April 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Flagler Garden and Whole Foods Market team up to host a community green market event to celebrate Earth Month and all things green. Grow Downtown takes place on Sunday, April 28th from 11am-4pm at the Flagler Garden location at 441 NE 3rd Ave in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is open to the public.

“Grow Downtown” will include garden previews showing future plans for Flagler Garden. Whole Foods Market will sell sangria, and has generously agreed to match all proceeds from their sales, and make a donation to the garden. Flagler Garden will also raffle off a garden plot, a $500 value that guarantees a spot for Founding Gardeners in their first year. While Founding Gardener sponsorship of $500 helps fund construction and guarantees a plot for year one, going forward, plots will lease for approximately $85 per year.

Currently, Flagler Garden is in the fundraising stage and will be the first community garden in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. To date, $12,592 has been raised which includes profits from Night Owl Market events, private donations, and a state grant. $36,355 is needed to complete Phase 1, which will provide an urban educating and social space where locals and visitors can both escape the fast-paced downtown lifestyle and embrace nature and green living.

Additional sponsors include Exposed PR, Indie Craft Bazaar, and Flagler Village. For more information on sponsorship opportunities visit flagergarden.org.

Flagler Garden is Fort Lauderdale’s first community garden. In 2010, a temporary small patch of land was known as the original garden. Backed by overwhelming community support, Flagler Garden will now break ground in 2013 on land donated by First Lutheran Church. The Garden plans to incorporate garden plots, paths, rain barrels, and garden hanging areas along with offering private event services and a 365-day growing season.
