ORILLIA, Ontario - April 8, 2013 - PRLog -- ORILLIA ONTARIO, April 4, 2013 – The Orillia Business Association (OBA) announces the OBA’s April 16th Dinner Meeting. All business owners and managers are invited to attend the event at Brewery Bay in Orillia.

“Why Businesses DO NOT Need Facebook to be Successful” will be presented by OBA member Terry Allison of Training Business Leaders.

Terry will discuss how the media have over-hyped social media to the point where more traditional and effective internet marketing techniques are abandoned to the detriment of many local businesses.

Common sense tells you that media coverage impacts public opinion. In the case of social media like Facebook and Twitter, that means impacting a marketer’s organizational decision-making such as budget and resource allocation.

As many a frustrated marketers knows, social media takes either a lot of time and/or money to implement and will only pay dividends in certain business markets and demographics, if at all. The most susceptible to the tech media’s influence are small businesses who may be spending too much effort on social media to the detriment of other more effective means of bringing eyeballs to their products or services.

Terry will elaborate on the social media for business debate and present some basic online marketing must-haves before small to medium businesses even consider spending time or budget on social media. These must-haves are low-budget, high impact items that every business owner should have at least a passing knowledge about if they are going to have their staff or a third party implement for their business.
