NEWARK, N.J. - April 4, 2013 - PRLog -- Blerdology, the premier provider of minority-focused hackathons, is thrilled to announce the addition of multi-media design and development agency Medina Citi and energy efficiency company OPOWER as sponsors of #BlackHack Newark April 6-7 at Rutgers Business School. Medina Citi and OPOWER will join corporate and community partners the Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development at Rutgers Business School, MailChimp, Brick City Development Corp, and Initiative Consulting Group as they rally to raise funds for the Center for Collaborative Change (CCC) and to promote high-growth entrepreneurship among Brick City residents and beyond.

Medina Citi is a Newark-based interactive media and web development firm. The agency specializes in cultivating brand identities that are meaningful, measurable and transformative through multi-faced campaigns using services including but not limited to rich media, graphic design, website optimization and more. OPOWER is widely noted as one of the oldest and most successful Enernet companies. OPOWER actively works to decrease power usage across the world by engaging communities with a social norming approach to energy efficiency. OPOWER will be joining #BlackHack Newark as a resume sponsor, recruiting talent from the event for full-time employment opportunities.

#BlackHack Newark will bring together minority coders and developers to build new and innovative apps and websites overnight in a friendly competitive format. #BlackHack attendees are exposed to a wealth of industry insights, business consulting and networking opportunities. Building projects on site for little to no cost, #BlackHacks are a novel way for budding entrepreneurs to get their projects off the ground and an unmatched opportunity to meet and recruit top minority tech talent from around the region. Admission for the event is free, however participants are encouraged to make donations for CCC, an organization that engages local community members and assists civic leadership in developing policies and programs to accelerate Newark’s revitalization through an inclusive process.

The hackathon will close out a 4 day tech weekend bringing together private, public and government organizations from around the city for a celebration of innovation. Newark Tech Weekend kicked off yesterday with TEDxNJIT followed by a youth STEM session at St. Phillips Academy and a policy discussion on the future of Newark tech on April 5th. The day will conclude with a Newark Tech Happy Hour co-sponsored by TEDxNJIT and Brick City Tech, at Loft 47 from 5-8pm.
