BMW has Announced a New Vehicle: a 3-Series Turbo Diesel Sedan

BARRINGTON, Ill. - April 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Soon, buyers interested in saving on gas will have the option of a refined and powerful diesel engine under the hood of the BMW 3-Series vehicle from Motor Werks BMW (http://www.motorwerksbmwbarrington.com/dealership/about.htm). When the car hits BMW showrooms, it will be called the BMW 328d, and the German automaker claims that the EPA estimate for mileage should well exceed 40 mpg on the highway. The new car will be hardly distinguishable from the rest of the BMW 3-Series, and should start at an MSRP of around $40,000

A diesel version of the 3-Series sedan has been on sale in Europe for some time as the BMW 320d. The BMW 328d will be sold in the United States with more or less the same equipment. Both vehicles sport a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder that generates 180 hp and a thoroughly impressive 280 lb-ft of torque. Based on measurements by BMW, the sedan should be able to hit 60 mph from standstill in only 7.2 seconds.

The BMW 328d will be equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2014 BMW 328d should be available by July or August of this year.

At the New York Auto Show, BMW also pulled the cover off several other vehicles. One is the new 3-Series Gran Turismo, a hatchback variant, and another was a plug-in hybrid called the Active Tourer Concept. The 3-Series Gran Turismo will probably make its debut as a production model in the United States next year.
