Nossaman LLP Elects George Joseph Managing Partner

LOS ANGELES - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Nossaman LLP today announces the election of a new firmwide managing partner, Orange County-based litigator George Joseph. Mr. Joseph assumes the post on the heels of Michael Heumann, who has served as managing partner since 2007. Mr. Joseph joined the firm in 1983 and has served on the firm’s Executive Committee and numerous other management committees during his tenure with Nossaman.

Mr. Joseph has 30 years of complex litigation experience, with emphasis in the areas of employment, construction, real estate and public agency law. From representing private companies and public agencies in a broad array of construction-related disputes to counseling employers on a wide range of personnel issues, Mr. Joseph’s legal knowledge extends across a variety of fields. He regularly appears at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts and is a successful mediator of disputes, having served as a volunteer settlement officer and court-appointed mediator.

“I cannot think of a more qualified candidate to take over this position,” said outgoing Managing Partner Michael Heumann. “The future is very bright for Nossaman and I am confident that George will lead the firm to new levels of success for the benefit of our clients and the communities in which we live and work.”

Mr. Joseph assumes the managing partner position at an exciting time for the firm.  With Mr. Heumann at the helm, Nossaman underwent a strategic merger in 2008 with Washington, D.C.-based O’Connor and Hannan, giving the firm a bicoastal presence and expanding its depth in several core areas, including public policy, environmental permitting and litigation and infrastructure. Nossaman has had steady revenue growth under Mr. Heumann's leadership, and as a direct result of targeted recruiting efforts, the firm has grown by 36 attorneys and six policy advisors in the past six years. More recently, Nossaman partnered with clients on a string of high-profile successes including the recent $169 million verdict in FDIC as Receiver for IndyMac Bank v. Van Dellen and the delivery of San Francisco’s Presidio Parkway, the first transportation project in California to be delivered under the state’s recently enacted public-private partnership statute.

As he steps down from the management role, Mr. Heumann will continue to build on his business litigation practice, as well as maintain leadership positions in organizations in his professional and personal communities, including continuing to serve on the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of the Autry National Center of the American West.  

Mr. Joseph earned his J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law (1983) and his A.B. from Cornell University (1980). He is a member of the State Bar Labor and Employment and Litigation Sections and the Orange County Bar Association’s Construction and Employment Law Sections.
