PETERSFIELD, U.K. - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Students studying Dance at Bedales performed their examined choreographed pieces on stage recently at the school’s Olivier Theatre.

Entitled ‘Bedales Dance Performs’, the event showcased pieces from students studying A Level and Bedales Assessed Courses (equivalent to GCSE) and gave the audience a chance to see budding and leading choreography and dance talent. Students had the opportunity to put their pieces in a professional setting and experience the thrill of a live performance.

The acts on stage included a powerful piece called ‘Dualism’ by Emily Blackley in Block 5 (Year 11), which featured dancers in elasticised full length tubes and ‘With Ropes’ a dramatic piece based on human struggle by Ochre Seagrim in Block 5. The Junior Dance Company performed a Street Dance piece and Elize Layton in 6.2 (upper sixth) made her final A Level project about the disaster of the Tsunami.

The students’ work was inspired by many practitioners, from Pina Bausch to Jeremy Robbins and provided a real cross-section of dance styles and genres.

Commenting on the performances, Keith Budge, Headmaster of Bedales Schools, said: “Dance is a medium that requires complete freedom to explore new styles and pieces. The Bedales Assessed Course curriculum enables our students to be creative and limitless in their interpretations of genres and this was very evident on stage in the high quality of the performances.”
