AHMEDABAD, India - April 2, 2013 - PRLog -- New Delhi, India: India faces a dire need for Common effluent treatment plants ( http://chokhavatia.com/services/turnkey-services/effluent-treatment-plants/ ) around several commercial, residential and industrial locations in the country. Over the few months, activists, government, and corporate offices have discussed the issue of water pollutions in the country and have expressed serious concern over the issue.

Very recently, industrialists IMT Manesar, Haryana, had complained that the water treatment facility at the complex is not able to handle the daily water treatment capacity, and urged to scale up the its existing waste management apparatus. The development authority, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), which had earlier blamed the industry for being lax on the prescribed treatment and disposal measures, has now agreed to set up a new Common Effluent Treatment Plant at the facility. It will cost 66 crore to the development authority to set up the new plant.

In November last year, experts at the CII national meet on effluent treatment plants had also discussed the issue and emphasised on the maximum use of CETP at all the industries. The body had suggested the all the member industries should set up CETP plant necessarily. The Ministry of Environment and Forests, Central and State Pollution Control Boards and Industrial Estates had discussed the economic viability of these plants.

India is the third largest economy of Asia and small scale industries (SSI) are a big contributor in the overall GDP of the country. Industrial states are mushrooming in the country. Some of these areas are well-planned and some of them are not. Couples of industrial region do not even have adequate space to set up new effluent treatment plant. The textile units in Madurai face the same issue. Due to the lack of space, the manufacturing units in the region are not able to set up new technologies or water treatment plants. This is the reason; a number of units are relocating to Virudhunagar. Textile units generate a lot of waste, which is extremely dangerous to the environment.

Further, according to experts, Ami river in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh state of India, desperately need effluent treatment plant. The state government had actually decided to set up the plant in the year 2010, but due to several reasons, it is still in the pipeline.

All the updates mentioned above clearly indicate that India badly need effluent treatment plants at various places, and government, though it seems to be observant, could not really augment the growth positively. A number of schemes such as the National River Conservation Plan, Jawaharlal Nehru National Renewable Mission (JNNURM), Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns, etc have helped the government to make a difference to certain level. Though India has taken some of the remarkable steps in eradicating water pollution, there is still lot to do and a number of states need to accelerate the process of setting up new effluent treatment plants around industrial cluster. So far, Gujarat has been a leader in setting up Common Effluent Treatment Plant. The state has so far set up about 30 CETP plants in the country. It has enabled the state to control the untreated effluent that has potential to pollute the water resources.
