AMARILLO, Texas - April 1, 2013 - PRLog -- The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Panhandle Branch is hosting a gala event on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Vintage Autohaus in Amarillo.  This event will feature exciting auctions, delicious meal and beverages with food and wine provided by Macaroni Joe’s, Party Stop, and Roaster’s and Fund A Cure, an auction that invites donors to directly support research to cure, treat, prevent type 1 diabetes (T1D).  A Fantasy Drawing will be held at the event to determine the winner of a trip to Hawaii, including airfare and hotel for 2.  Only 400 Fantasy Drawing tickets are sold.

Sue Rankin, Nurse Practitioner with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Pedi-Partners will be honored by those she has supported throughout the years.  There will be a special presentation for the Horwood Family, for their efforts to bring awareness and support to those who do not live close to a JDRF affiliate.

T1D, formerly known as “juvenile diabetes” affects adults and children of all ages.  There is no cure for T1D.  The onset of T1D does not have anything to do with lifestyle or diet.  Locally, the Panhandle Branch of JDRF provides education and support to approximately 15,000 West Texans affected by this disease. JDRF is the leading non-governmental funder of T1D research and was recognized this year by Forbes Magazine for exemplary efficiency.
