By: Chesapeake Family Magazine The magazine received top honors in its circulation category for overall writing, promotion design and for the editor's letter. The 2012-13 Big Book of Education won first place for General Excellence in design and editorial as well as best overall writing. Second place awards went to web editor Hannah Anderson for best use of multimedia in her online story about a Pasadena girl's gardening and chicken raising efforts (http://www.chesapeakefamily.com/ "I am so proud of my staff," said Jefferson. "We have worked really hard this year to produce a magazine and website that will serve our community. Our main goal to serve our readers — to be useful to the parents in our community — but it is nice to get this type of recognition as well." The magazine is headed by Editor Betsy Stein and Art Director Jenny Patrick C. Heather Grant is web director and Jeanne M. Slaughter heads up marketing. PMA's Editorial and Design Awards Competition recognizes excellence in journalism, photography and design achieved by publishers, editors, writers and designers at member publications. Headquartered in Los Angeles, PMA is a nonprofit national organization representing more than 120 parenting magazines and newspapers in the United States, Canada and Australia.
