Follow on Google News | International Maritime Boundaries:2013 World Poster MapWhen it comes to the delimitation of maritime boundaries, the only constant seems to be change. With hundreds of boundaries already settled and hundreds more still to come, attempting to stay abreast of the latest developments is a never-ending job.
Our new map also illustrates delimitations that have occurred beyond the 200 nautical mile limits of a coastal State’s entitlement to an exclusive economic zone, or EEZ. The delimitation of extended continental shelf claims is a relatively recent phenomenon that will, no doubt, result in awards of sovereignty over vast areas of sea and seabed where the shelf extends beyond the juridical limit of 200 M. The recent ITLOS award in the Bangladesh / Myanmar case, for example, represented the first time that an ECS claim had ever been delimited through litigation. Undoubtedly, it will not be the last. International Maritime Boundaries: 2013 is a comprehensive reference tool that will aid anyone who needs to stay current with international maritime affairs.
