April Declared National Meetings Industry Month

March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- In a move to bring excitement and pride back to the Meetings Industry following five years of recession and struggle, SPIN (Senior Planners Industry Network), has declared the month of April to be National Meetings Industry Month.  

"It's been a rough few years for our industry, with meetings coming under fire by the government, and being cut or eliminated by corporations everywhere as a cost-saving measure," said SPIN president Shawna Suckow, CMP.  "We believe it's time to celebrate again and embrace the value of the industry, and especially the individuals who comprise it."

SPIN will celebrate National Meetings Industry Month in each of its 17 North American branch locations.  It has announced a series of free social events that will bring together planners for a creative competition called SPINCake Wars, modeled after the TV Show Cupcake Wars, but with a twist.  "Our competition is based not on making pretty cupcakes, but on serious creativity, reflective of who we are," said Tracey Smith, CMP, CMM, vice president of programs for SPIN. "We did a trial run of this event and it was amazing how incredibly creative the designs were, using both traditional and non-traditional toppings provided by the chef."

SPINCake Wars will be sponsored by Caesars Entertainment, and hosted in each location by Hilton Hotels.  Each location will select a winning design and submit a photo to the SPIN Facebook page.  The public will then weigh in to select the Grand Prize winner among all the posted designs.  The cupcake designer receiving the most 'likes' will receive a full scholarship to SPIN's annual North American conference, SPINCon, to be held in Atlantic City June 5-7, 2013.
