Sculpture Artist Jan Kirsh To Hold Academy Arts Exhibition

EASTON, Md. - March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- "Forms from the Garden Show" opens May 10 in Easton, MD  
Jan Kirsh, award winning landscape designer and artist, announces the May 10 opening of a solo sculpture exhibition at the Academy Art Museum, 106 South Street, Easton, Maryland.  “Forms from the Garden” will feature Kirsh’s voluptuous and exuberant vegetable and fruit forms, pieces which reflect her desire to provide commentary on the human form mirrored in familiar vegetal shapes.

Kirsh’s sculptures are the embodiment of a life’s work in concert with nature. Trained in ceramics, sculpture, design and photography at Florida State and The Corcoran School of Art, Kirsh turned first to landscape design, fulfilling a desire to work within nature’s parameters. With the advent of her sculpture venture, she brings her creative career full circle.

From a block of clay, her pieces are hand shaped until a unique and refreshing form emerges.  The clay models are then used to fabricate the pieces in a variety of materials, including bronze, resin, and stone, and finished in a range of custom colors and sizes.

  Kirsh is engaged with texture and color in both in her gardens and her sculpture. Her discipline as a garden designer provides the perfect springboard for visualizing her sculpture – posing each piece in her mind as she views the space. Her art is accessible.  She notes, “Sculpture is something that requests interaction; I want my work to entice the viewer to touch the pieces, admire the curves, the hollows, the softly rounded undulations.” The sculpture, which can be displayed indoors or out, inspires conversation and provokes an uninhibited response.
