The Infiniti QX60 Will Be Unveiled at the New York Auto Show

This exciting new midsize crossover SUV will debut at the New York Auto Show, and will replace the JX37 in the Infiniti lineup. The big news that Infiniti released in advance of the show is that the Infiniti QX60 will be available as a crossover using the sophisticated Direct Response Hybrid system, which wasn’t available on its predecessor.

The QX60 is a three-row luxury sport utility vehicle that boasts distinctive Infiniti styling and high performance. The standard gasoline-powered engine is a 3.5L V6, which carries over from the previous JX35, and produces 365 hp. The QX60 will be available in either front or all-wheel drive.

The hybrid model will be nearly as powerful, and will use the Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid system. Under the hood will be a supercharged 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with a 15 kW electric motor. A compact lithium-ion battery will power the electric motor, which will be recharged through Intelligent Regenerative Braking. The whole powertrain will be mated to a continuously variable transmission in order to further improve fuel economy.

With this surprise announcement of the QX60, it’s difficult to guess what else Infiniti could be planning for the lineup-wide rebranding. As the new naming scheme — which is made up of Q for cars and QX for SUVs and crossovers, and a number indicating the vehicle’s position in the lineup — it is likely that many other vehicles from Infiniti could see major changes.
