Follow on Google News | Appropriation Art and Pop Surrealism: the Ascension of REAREA art is a mixture of appropriation and pop surrealism art and more, with a unique provocative dark style.
REA, thanks to his experience as a street artist and to his personal sensibility, has created a new way in the arts: “Rea created and developed his own unique ‘Pop Surrealist’ technique of spray painting on billboards and the pages of glossy magazines. The result being nothing less than provocative.” His new and original technique is combined with a really personal sensibility that gives to his artworks a sense of melancholy and dark sweetness. He transforms commercial corpses in living ghosts. “REA’s work arises from a glossy image, created in order to sell a product, full of messages of desire and fascination, which stir people to material fetishism for mass culture products. REA removes the product from this image and atmosphere totally changes, the subject is bending to his will, the subject becomes other from himself. His favorite models are women in their intimacy, lost in their thoughts, dreams, mental explorations, caught in their mental spaces.” (from the catalogue “Italian Pop Surrealism”). His subjects are female models, as REA states: “The beauty celebrated by mass media, is for me boring, so I act on these images to reveal a form of beauty that I feel more real and surely personal.” REA art is constantly evolving and in March 2013 Vecchiato Art Galleries will present some new artworks of the most recent evolution of his artistic production on http://www.vecchiatoarte.com: He exhibited his works abroad at Strychnin Gallery (together with Mark Ryden and Ray Caesar), Cell63 Art Gallery (Berlin), Fun House Gallery (Detroit), L’Art de Rien Gallery (Paris), Genuine Artikle Gallery (New York), Kaneko’s Gallery (California) Artist page and artworks: http://www.vecchiatoarte.com/ End
