There are few careers that causes one to become more insecure than acting! When your agent stops calling and the prospect for work is looking bleak it's hard to stay upbeat.

Is Being An Actor Worth It?
There are days when you look in the mirror and can't help but ask; is this all worth it? The cattle calls, the classes, the restaurant work -- or trying to find work. Even seasoned actors can go long spells between roles.

Problems with the Profession
A big problem with becoming an actor is that the skills are kinda hard to transfer. Being an actor doesn't exactly get you a key to to the executive washroom if you decide to change jobs. And then there's that 'catch 22' clause: no one will cast you unless you are already in the union, and you can't get into the union until you are cast!

Something to Fall Back On?
Maybe your parents were right. Perhaps you do need to find some other substantial line of work as a back up. But the question is 'what else can you do that you would enjoy?' As an actor it's hard to get excited about doing anything else. Of course you still have to pay the rent, eat, and pay for your classes or coaching.

Another Option May Be Close
If you are reading this, odds are, you may spend a significant amount of time online. Would it surprise you to know that a few hours each week could lead to a 5-figure a month cushion? Yes, it's true. But you must know what pitfalls to avoid if you take this route.
