“Most of us became therapists to help people. It’s a wonderfully rewarding career from that point of view, but it’s also vital to remember your practice is a business, not just a calling.

“Too many therapists overlook the fact that their time is valuable. There is no sense allowing an appointment to be taken by someone who is going to cancel at the last minute when it could be given to someone who will both attend and pay. To prevent situations like this, it’s a good idea to have a cancellation policy in place. Take deposits from each client when they make their bookings and keep that as payment for cancellations without a certain amount of notice.
