“Mastering Business Growth”: 10-Week Program Offers Business Owners a Competitive Edge

BUENA PARK, Calif. - March 25, 2013 - PRLog -- “Your Company’s Business Plan”  the first of 10 half-day workshops on “Mastering Business Growth™” hosted at the Southern California Gas Company in Downey March 19. The workshop’s featured speaker was Lily Otieno, CEO of Infinity Business Solutions (IBS).

Workshop attendee and small business owner Blair Seibert of Verde Concepts declared the first module a success, saying, “I'm very motivated.” Attendee Deborah Dyson of Dyson Electric said, “This is an opportunity to connect and learn,” and Grace Luu of Marsa Solutions said, “Lily makes this look easy.”

Award winning industry experts Andy Carrasco, a supplier diversity manager at SoCalGas, Victor Parker, the district director of the Small Business Administration’s Los Angeles District Office, and Max Ordonez, lead business adviser of the Long Beach Community College District were guest speakers and panelists.

Parker said of the program, “The Mastering Business Growth training event is a fine example of public-private partnership bringing resources to the emerging diverse businesses in our small business community. It is a fantastic opportunity to leverage talents and resources in order to take small businesses to the next level.”

The program, presented conjointly by Infinity Business Solutions, SoCalGas and San Diego Gas & Electric Supplier Diversity Institute is designed for small business owners with revenues under $1 million who have been in business “less than three years” and who are designated diverse business enterprises. Additionally, the workshops offer opportunities for one-on-one coaching, peer networking, and “matchmaking” with SoCalGas Company representatives.  More than 60 participants completed the first workshop.

“Financial Capital—Recognizing Needs, Sources and Management,” the second workshop topic, is scheduled for March 26 in Downey. It will feature a presentation by Oscar Edwards of Higher Growth Strategies.

The remaining workshops offer information about human resources management, business law and regulations, contracting, risk management and marketing. All are designed as components of a “toolkit” to help new small businesses stimulate and manage their growth.

The series of workshops continues through May 21 at SoCalGas, Energy Resource Center in Downey.
