Helly Hansen ambassador, Inge Solheim, will lead Walking With The Wounded to the South Pole

SOUTH PETHERTON, U.K. - March 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Helly Hansen ambassador and professional expedition leader, Inge Solheim, has been announced as the polar guide in charge of leading a group of wounded servicemen and women to the South Pole, for Walking With Wounded’s 2013 Allied South Pole challenge.

Norwegian born Inge, is a Helly Hansen ambassador, and is one of the most respected individuals of his profession. For over 15 years he has been making adventure his life by guiding, exploring and consulting in some of the most extreme environments on the planet – from racing to the South Pole, to trekking 1,400 miles on the Greenland Ice Cap.

Throughout Inge’s career, he has advised numerous TV productions on safety and logistics, and has appeared in-front of the camera on BBC series such as Blizzard Race To The Pole, On Thin Ice and Voyages Of Discovery.

The 2013 Walking With The Wounded expedition will see three teams of wounded servicemen and women from the UK, US and Commonwealth (Australia and Canada), head to Antarctica to race against each other in an attempt to reach the Geographic South Pole. Antarctica is known to be the coldest, windiest and driest place on earth, and the wounded soliders are expected to cover 335km over 16 days, encountering temperatures as low as -40°C.

Inge is no stranger to Walking With The Wounded, having lead four wounded British soldiers to the North Pole in 2011 to raise awareness for the charity, which funds the re-training and re-education of wounded servicemen and women. Throughout the 2013 challenge, he will be supporting the teams with ongoing training on the ice, and will be responsible for guiding the soldiers through harsh and unpredictable conditions. In addition, he has continued to work closely with the Helly Hansen design team to provide all participating teams with a complete range of technical apparel, specifically designed to keep them protected and confident when faced with the elements.
