ORR 2013 Regional Championship Racing Series Announced

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - March 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The Offshore Racing Rule (ORR) this year expands its racing series to three regional championships for boats with current ORR certificates. This will be the inaugural season for the West Coast Championship, the 2nd year of the East Coast Championship and the 4th year of the Great Lakes Championship Series. In their respective regions, yachts with ORR certificates will automatically be entered in the appropriate ORR Regional Championship Series at no charge. Additionally, all entries to these championships will be eligible for the ORR National Championship.

West Coast Series (Inaugural Series)

The Offshore Racing Rule strives to attract well-designed and well-built offshore boats whose owners prefer not to optimize their boats continually to stay competitive. As one of the most versatile and fair rating rules available, the ORR is used for both casual and world-class competitions. Science-based and objective, the rule derives ratings from full measurement of all the speed-related features of sailboats.  Specific technical details are updated on a regular basis to maintain equality of certificate-holding boats. The ORR equalizes competitive boats in competitive events, and as a result, race winners are those crews who work best together and use superior strategy and tactics.

In those regattas that have an ORR division, to be eligible for the regional or national ORR championship, yachts must sail in the ORR division. One-design yachts may compete in their own class. In races sailed without an ORR division/class, an ORR overlay will be used and ORR ratings will be adjusted to compensate for configurations that do not conform to ORR regulations, e.g. sail inventories that fall outside the ORR regulations (e.g. IRC sail regulations).
