CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - March 22, 2013 - PRLog -- At the Geneva Motor Show, Mike Manley, Jeep’s president, suggested that a pickup truck version of the popular Jeep Wrangler may well be a reality in the near future. This news was greeted with considerable enthusiasm at Pat McGrath Dodge Country, a premier Jeep dealer located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (http://www.patmcgrathdodgecountry.com/section/secondary/about-us/). A truck with the rugged versatility and legendary off-road capabilities that Jeep is famous for would certainly seem to be a major player in the highly competitive pickup truck market.

The Wrangler has been the iconic Jeep vehicle, with its unique, instantly recognizable design and unmatched off-road performance. Its appeal as a no-nonsense sport utility vehicle with an air of rugged individualism has earned it a loyal following. The production of a truck variant is seen as a brilliant way to both broaden its appeal and meet the needs of consumers looking for the versatility that only a pickup truck can provide.

While known for its original and rather austere charm, the Wrangler saw the introduction of new comfort and convenience features on the 2013 model, including a more refined interior, but the essential rough-and-tumble nature of the vehicle is still its chief characteristic. Available in 3 basic trim levels, it is expected that the truck version will be modeled along the same lines as the Sport edition.

If indeed the Wrangler truck is built and made available as part of a next generation push, it will be interesting to see if Jeep decides to produce a Trail Rated edition as well. As the sign of the ultimate in off-road performance, the Trail Rated badge would be a huge draw if applied to a Wrangler pickup.

In addition to the Wrangler truck, Jeep is also reportedly considering new compact SUV models, as well as a sport utility vehicle that would be larger than the Grand Cherokee. Expanding the Jeep line-up with a wider range of choices in size and capabilities is an excellent way to reach a more broad-based market of drivers that may not have considered Jeep in the past.
