The Community Foundation at The Venice Golf & Country Club awards grant to Venice Area Mobile Meals

Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc. recipient of $3,000 grant to provide 1,000 meals to clients facing financial hardship in Nokomis and Venice, FL over the coming months.
 
VENICE, Fla. - March 20, 2013 - PRLog -- On March 13, 2013, The Community Foundation at The Venice Golf and Country Club awarded grants to 15 non-profit organizations totaling $40,000. 33 applicants had applied for grants during this grant cycle.

Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc. was selected as one of the recipients of a financial grant from the Foundation.  A check for $3,000 was accepted by Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc.’s President Nigel Fairbank at an awards luncheon held at Venice Golf and Country Club on March 13, 2013.  The grant funds will provide 1,000 daily noon-time meals delivered by Venice Area Mobile Meals’ volunteers for those clients facing financial hardship, residing in Venice and Nokomis, Florida.

The grant period begins March 13, 2013, and lasts for one year, with progress reviewed by May of 2013.

$250,000 has been awarded to area non-profits in the past eight years by The Community Foundation at The Venice Golf and Country Club.

About The Community Foundation at the Venice Golf and Country Club

The Community Foundation at The Venice Golf and Country Club was created in 2005 to support local non-profit groups through private donations from Club residents and fund-raising events at the Club.  Its mission is to improve the lives of residents of Venice and immediately adjacent communities, by providing financial grants for carefully-selected projects.  

Each year, a dozen or more Foundation member volunteers carefully scrutinize grant applications to select those that provide the most important health, educational, environmental, social, and cultural benefits for the local area.  The Foundation has awarded a total of more than $250,000 in grants in its first eight years.

About Venice Area Mobile Meals

Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community supported, all volunteer organization, has delivered over 1.44 million noon-time meals to area residents since 1969. Its mission is to provide a warm, noon-time meal, daily except Sunday, to any person in the Greater Venice, Florida area unable to prepare a meal because of a physical or mental disability. Although there are no age restrictions, most meal recipients are seniors.

An average of 185 meals are delivered a day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, holidays included, with the help of about 200 volunteers, each providing a few hours of their time each week.

Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc. is not associated with Meals on Wheels Association of America, nor does it receive any financial funding from any government entity.
