EXHIBITS, SHOWS AND DEMONSTRATIONS

CSI: Crime Scene Insects

Crime-solving insects crack the case, and you’re the witness! Inspired by the hit television series, this hands-on exhibit invites you to investigate the fascinating field of forensic entomology (the use of insects to help solve crimes). Developed by ExhibitIQ.  Exhibit on display daily through May 12, 2013. Free for members or included with paid general admission.

Sustainable Style: Fashion and Photography Exhibit

The Springs Preserve has gone couture! Organized by Fashion for a Cause and the Springs Preserve, this fashion exhibit features looks from designers constructed from recycled or reused materials, sustainable fabrics or locally-produced wares. See how fashion can make a positive impact in the community. Exhibit on display daily through June 16 in the Big Springs Gallery. Free for members or included with paid general admission.

Art in the Gardens - Art in Motion: The Kinetic Wind Art of Mark White

Mark White’s kinetic wind sculptures were designed by the artist to encourage self-reflection, as the sculptures whimsically move with the winds. They are precisely balanced to respond to the lightest of breeze, yet strong enough to withstand 100 mph winds. Visitors to the exhibit will be able to relax and contemplate nature and art, while the Springs Preserve Botanical Gardens bloom around them. Exhibit on display daily through September 30, 2013. Free for members or included with paid general admission.

Wild South America - Animal Show

From rainforest to desert, animals in South America have adapted to survive in their unique habitats, much like the animals in the Mojave. Weekends and holidays through May 2013. Rotating cast of animals may include snakes, macaws, llamas, conures, parrots, tarantulas, coatimundi, capybara, kinkajou, Patagonian Mara, and the endangered Andean Condor. Programs are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Outdoor Amphitheater (weather permitting). Presentations will be held inside the Big Springs Theater during inclement weather.  Included with General Admission.

Wild South America - Backstage Pass

Get closer! Our backstage tour invites guests to learn more about how our animals are cared for and trained. Touch and take photos with several of the animals from the Wild South America show. These and other up close experiences await you on Wild South America show days 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.  $10 per person. A paying adult must accompany children under 5. All guests 2-up must be ticketed for the Backstage Pass.

Crime Scene Creatures - Feature Film

If you like our CSI exhibit, crack another case in our Crime Scene Creatures film (60 min.). Follow forensic scientists as they use insects and other animals to solve crimes. Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. in the Big Springs Theater throughout April. Included with General Admission.
