FWHS/UA grads come back to Tucson to premiere film at Arizona International Film Festival!

TUCSON, Ariz. - March 20, 2013 - PRLog -- TUCSON, Arizona, March 20, 2013 (eReleases) -- Flowing Wells High School / University of Arizona graduates are coming home to premiere their new feature film, SUMMER LEAGUE! The husband-and-wife power couple, married at Tucson's Botanical Gardens in 2006, Phillip "Lex" Lybrand and Kelli Horan produced the film together, with Lybrand directing and Horan writing. Other Tucsonans involved with the film's production include composer, Hamdija Ajanovic, musician, Tyler Scruggs, and another FWHS grad, cinematographer, Austin Shaffer, whom insisted that a Sonoran hot dog be included in a pool party montage as a nod to his hometown.

Lybrand and Horan moved from Tucson to Austin, Texas in 2010 to pursue a career in feature filmmaking. Before leaving The Old Pueblo, Lybrand was an 8-time champion at competitions held at Tucson's Loft Cinema. His short film, "Batman's Bad Day" screened in front of showings of The Dark Knight at Tower Theaters in Northwest Tucson. A 2006 UA Media Arts BFA graduate, Lybrand was a part of the inaugural 'I Dream in Widescreen' BFA showcase. Horan, a 2010 Media Arts graduate, produced a film for the 2009 'Widescreen' showcase.

SUMMER LEAGUE is the first feature film to come out of Lex Lybrand's production company, Greenless Studios. The world premiere took place on March 18th, 2013 at the Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane in Austin, Texas. The showing at the Arizona International Film Festival will be the first screening of the film outside of Texas. Lybrand and Horan plan on attending the Arizona premiere, which takes place on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 12:00PM noon at the Grand Crossroads Festival Cinema. Speaking about the film's Tucson premiere, Lex Lybrand had the following to say, "While I credit my old VHS copies of BACK TO THE FUTURE and GHOST BUSTERS for making me want to be a filmmaker, it was Tucson & the University of Arizona that made me believe it was possible. I'll never forget the rush that came with seeing something I made on the big screen at The Loft Cinema for the first time. I don't even remember if the audience liked it or not. I just remember watching my ideas come to life, prompting something in my brain to click and say 'Okay... this is what I'm doing from now on!' As a former spectator at the AIFF, I'm thrilled to finally be on the other side of things."
