Atlanta Venture Capital and Angel Investors Event Help Set Ideas in Motion

“There is a shortage of channels that help make ideas happen. Many people have great ideas that are often times paralyzed. It doesn’t have to be that way all the time.” -- David Drake, Founder and Chairman, The Soho Loft

NEW YORK - March 30, 2013 - PRLog -- It’s time to meet an angel investor or a venture capitalist. Finding an investor is actually quite easy if you know what to look for. The more you know about angel investors and venture capitalists, the better your chances of getting funding and setting those ideas into motion.

The Soho Loft and FundingPost, a VC and angel network, once again presented a Venture and Angel Event in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, March 28, 2013.

The partnership of The Soho Loft and FundingPost has produced more than 200 sold-out venture events across 22 cities over the past 12 years. At this second annual Atlanta event, the group of investors attending focused its attention on early-stage venture investing.

Joe Rubin, Director at FundingPost says, “We have seen the economic climate change and we anticipate a growth in the seed-stage venture economy.”

According to David Drake, Founder and Chairman at The Soho Loft, “We will see distribution networks like Funding Post become a major player. And crowdfunding for equity will want to partner with its 25 annual and leading VC and angel events.”

Even if you believe you have the greatest idea your field has ever known, it’s very possible that prospective investors won’t have the knowledge about your market or understand why they should invest in you. This venture capital and angel event helped entrepreneurs understand how to pitch their ideas and what it really takes to hear the words “Who should I write this check out to?”

There were be discussions about trends in early-stage investing, about knowing the hot sectors that these angels and VCs look at and understanding the factors that are most important to them when they are considering an investment. They discovered the best and worst things an entrepreneur can do to get the attention of angels and VCs and gain additional advice for entrepreneurs.

Attendees heared valuable insights from Sigmund “Sig” Mosley, Jr., Managing Partner at Mosley Ventures. Mr. Mosley serves on the board of directors of several private companies. He is a Director at The Imlay Foundation, Inc., Techbridge, Entrepreneurs Foundation of the Southeast, GATV, the Atlanta CEO Council, TiE Atlanta, and TAG. He also serves on the advisory board of the ATDC, the investment committee of Gray Ghost DOEN Social Ventures Cooperative, and the GRA Venture Fund Board. Mr. Mosley is also a managing member of Flashpoint Investors, LLC.

The best part of the event was the generous time to  network with the investor panelists, before and after the panel, as well as during the cocktail party.

As an added feature, there was an Optional Pitching Workshop Lunch from 11am- 1pm on the same date. This workshop dissected the entrepreneurs’ elevator pitches and helped them formulate a brief and concise pitch – one that works and gives the pertinent information that investors need to hear from them. This means people learned how to relay the general vision of their business and the problem it is trying to solve.
