Nourishing Chocolate Granola Candy

Delicious chocolate chunks become best-seller after being created out of necessity to use abundance of soft granola.

MIDDLESEX, Vt. - March 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Nutty Steph’s Magic Chunks http://www.nuttystephs.com/magic-chunks -a chocolate and granola candy- came into being nearly five years ago and have since developed a cult following, pleasing the mouths of thousands through retail shops across the nation. All this time and they haven’t been officially introduced to the public… until now, that is!

What are Nutty Steph’s Magic Chunks?
Although they contain both oats and chocolate, Magic Chunks are nothing like granola bars or chocolate no-bakes. Says Nutty Steph’s chocolatier Amela Hall: “When I tell people that we coat our nutty maple granola in our single source Ecuadorian chocolate to form little squares, I don’t need to say anything else. They get really excited about trying it.” Both these ingredients are so delicious on their own and their marriage results in a wholesome candy that’s truly a special treat. Magic Chunks are available in five flavors- original, mint, peanut butter, black forest, and gluten free.
The invention of Magic Chunks happened quite accidentally. One Spring back in 2008, the bakers at Nutty Steph’s found that their granola had lost its crunch. The reason for this was a mystery and after some detective work, it was discovered that the year's maple syrup crop was the cause. The maple syrup, a staple ingredient and the sole sweetener in Nutty Steph’s granola, had a lower than normal sugar content, resulting in soft granola. This conundrum resulted in an overstock of thousands of pounds of non-crunchy granola, as batch after batch was produced in an attempt to make the granola crunchy again.

What to do with all this crunch-lacking granola?
A friend of Nutty Steph’s founder Jaquelyn Rieke, had been trying for some time, to convince her to mix Nutty Steph's granola with chocolate, but Rieke resisted, wanting to keep the business simple, offering just one product. After all, the company’s granola began flying off of store shelves nearly overnight, outselling national brands shortly after its introduction. Right around the time of the non-crunchy granola problem, Rieke’s friend Patti Smith decided to take matters into her own hands and create the recipe she so wanted Nutty Steph’s to offer. Smith brought the chocolate granola chunks to a picnic; Not only did Rieke love them, the other guests did not stop raving about them, and they were crunchy!

The addition of chocolate had transformed the soggy granola and made it crunchy. There was no choice now but to make Magic Chunks available to the world.
