Enterprise Architecture with ArchiMate 2.0, Using Agilian Enterprise

March 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Visual Paradigm International, a leading provider of visual modeling software, today announced the release of Version 10.1 of their Enterprise Architecture product, Agilian Enterprise.

Agilian Enterprise supports enterprise architects to represent enterprise framework with modeling languages like ArchiMate, Zachman Framework and Business Motivation Model. Enterprise architects can also plan and design information system with languages like BPMN, UML, SysML and ERD. Models can be integrated to aid in the alignment between business strategies and IT resources.

Version 10.1 of Agilian Enterprise introduces 2 major new features, along with more than 20 smaller features and enhancements. One of the enhancements is the better support of version 2.0 of ArchiMate.

Developed by The Open Group, ArchiMate is an open and independent modeling language tailored for Enterprise Architecture. ArchiMate supports enterprise architects to describe, analyze, visualize and communicate enterprise architecture. ArchiMate 2.0, the latest version of ArchiMate, enables the creation of fully integrated models of an organization’s Enterprise Architecture, the motivation behind it, and the programs, projects and migration paths to implement it. Agilian 10.1 follows ArchiMate 2.0 specification to support enterprise architects in modeling with the new motivation extension and implementation and migration extensions.  

While the main concepts of ArchiMate focus primarily on describing the architecture of systems that support an enterprise, the motivation of design and operation of enterprise are addressed by the motivation extension. The motivation extension adds into ArchiMate concepts such as goal, principle and requirement. The extension is introduced to support requirements management, which is important in the process of designing and managing enterprise architecture.

The implementation and migration extensions add the concept of the implementation and migration of architecture. The extension supports project portfolio management, gap analysis, and transition and migration planning.

Agilian 10.1 supports the motivation extension as well as the implementation and migration extensions. Enterprise architects can perform Enterprise Architecture with the notations of the two new extensions defined in the ArchiMate 2.0 specification.
