PVinsights: Great polysilicon and mono solar component price increase this week

March 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Polysilicon continues the price uptrend this week. Price of polysilicontraded in Chinacontinues to increase with Chinese polysilicon antidumping case still under review and PV grade polysilicon still follows 2nd grade polysilicon prices. Althoughpolysilicon traded outside of China does not necessarily experience the same substantial price increase, the price boom in China still pushes up overall polysilicon price level. The Chinese government is expected to announce preliminary result in late Mar to early April. Until then, polysilicon prices in China are expected to keep increasing.  

Increasing demand for mono solar components pushes up prices of mono wafer and cell this week. Since mono solar components can provide higher efficiency compare to multi products under limited space, mono products enjoy the price premium. On the other hand, mutli solar components enjoy a more moderate price increase this week with price cut pressure from modules.

Overall downstream demand remains solid with demand coming from Japan,China, and Germany; however, system prices continue to decrease. Commercial system price in Europe has already dropped to below 1 euro per watt. With price cut pressure from systems, price of module only increase moderately this week. Although solar component production cost is now higher due to great polysilicon price increase, multi solar cells and wafers only experience a moderate price increase this week with price pressure from downstream supply chain.
