DONCASTER, U.K. - March 13, 2013 - PRLog -- It may seem like it has rained and snowed for all eternity turning the country into a soggy quagmire, but one leading housebuilder is reminding homeowners to still conserve their domestic water consumption especially in light of recent price hikes by water companies. With water bills set to rise an average of 3.5 percent it has never been more prudent for homeowners to use water wisely and, Miller Homes (http://www.millerhomes.co.uk/) has tips to help reduce the average persons’ water consumption from 150 litres per day nearer to the 20 litres that our grandparents used!

“Water is a precious commodity but it is easy for us all to forget this as we go about our daily lives,” commented Steve McElroy sales director Miller Homes Yorkshire. “We all try to do small things each day such as turning the tap off when brushing your teeth and only filling the kettle with as much water as you need, but there are other things we can do that will keep our consumption, and spend to a minimum.

“Heating water accounts for around 24 percent of our household energy bills too so by opting for showers instead of baths and washing up when you have a few pots rather than just one will undoubtedly save you money,” commented Steve. “And, as spring approaches and we begin to nurture our gardens back to life, rainwater harvesting is a great way to keep your plants alive and your water bills down as is collecting water from a running tap whilst you wait for the hot to flow through.”

Other tips include purchasing water efficient appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers, steaming vegetables rather than boiling them and recycling used water for watering plants or washing outdoor items such as windows, cars and sports equipment.

Miller Homes is committed to building energy efficient homes and installs energy efficient water appliances such as toilets, showers and boilers. Every show home at developments across the county displays eco-information boards detailing energy efficiency aspects of its homes.

Miller Homes currently has 12 developments throughout region including; Ashtree Park in Sutton-in-Ashfield,  h2010 in Leeds City Centre, Cleminson Halls, Cottingham and a new development soon to open in Lindley, West Yorkshire.  Properties range from two bedroom apartments to four bedroom houses and are priced from £75,500.
