Electronics and Appliance Recycling Event to Raise Funds for Ronald McDonald House

Sims and the San Jose Sharks host another free collection event after rounding up nearly 10,000 pounds at successful February event

SAN JOSE, Calif. - March 12, 2013 - PRLog -- San Jose, Calif. – Sims Recycling Solutions, the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling, is teaming up with Sims Metal Management and the San Jose Sharks to encourage the community and Sharks hockey fans to recycle their electronics and appliances. The more material collected for recycling during this event, the more Sims will donate to the Ronald McDonald House, a charity chosen by Sharks forward and alternate captain Patrick Marleau. The event will be held in the main parking lot (Lot ABC) at HP Pavilion located at 525 W. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA, on March 30, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Everyone who drops off a recyclable item will be able to watch the team’s pregame morning skate and will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for prizes that include a chance to win Sharks tickets, a Zamboni ride and exclusive autographed merchandise and memorabilia. Participants in last month’s event dropped off an estimated 10,000 pounds of electronics and appliances for recycling.

“In 2010 the U.S. disposed of 152 million cell phones and only 17 million of those phones were recycled,” stated Steve Skurnac, President, Sims Recycling Solutions, Americas. “Electronics are everywhere and these figures represent the significance of the problem. We hope folks take advantage of this great opportunity to not only help raise recycling rates, but to donate to a great charity as well.”

This e-waste collection event will be set up as a drive-through and drop-off event. Staff will be on hand to conveniently and quickly collect items from community members’ vehicles. For those who plan to recycle a monitor or television, please print and complete the collection log found at the us.simsrecycling.com/sharks website to ensure faster processing.

Sims Recycling Solutions and Sims Metal Management will accept the following: appliances, scrap metal, computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, PDAs, cell phones, telephones, televisions, radios, stereos, speakers, MP3 players, CD and DVD players and VCRs. Sims is unable to accept: batteries, smoke detectors, ink or toner cartridges, tanks, ammunition scrap, and paint or aerosol cans.
