Cass students in Rotman’s international trading competition

Cass Business School MSc students recently took part in the annual Rotman International Trading Competition in Toronto, Canada.

LONDON - March 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Five Cass Business School MSc students recently took part in the annual Rotman International Trading Competition.

The five, who are all enrolled on the MSc in Mathematical Trading and Finance, made up the only UK entrants in the global trading challenge.

The other teams originated from the US, Canada, Asia and the rest of Europe.
Out of the 48 university teams competing, the Cass team finished 27th in the three day competition. It was hosted by the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto) in the heart of Canada's financial district, downtown Toronto.

The team consisted of: Andrea Tagliabue, Peter Hallberg, Philip Hendy, Morten Fylkesnes and Nikolaos Papanikolaou.

Philip Hendy said: "We were delighted to travel to Canada for this prestigious trading event, to represent Cass Business School and to have competed at such a high level, putting theory into practice.”

Before the trip, Professor Giovanni Urga, academic supervisor for the team said: "The Cass team are all talented mathematicians and will learn and develop from their experience at Rotman's."

Associate Dean for the MSc programmes at Cass Business School, Professor Andrew Clare says: "It's great to see a group of students taking the knowledge they have learned at the School and applying it on a global stage."

The five entrants were well prepared to face the challenges of the Trading Competition. Studying at a University that is in the business heart of London, all Cass Business School students have a solid grounding in their chosen field. The academic staff running the course have years of practical experience working in trading and finance, and are currently researching their fields to gain further understanding that will benefit their students.

Carrying out a research project (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/courses/masters/courses/mathem...) before the end of the year encourages students to investigate a specific area of interest, and motivates them to interact with companies by seeking out sponsored projects. Encouraging students to interact with companies in this way helps them to get a foot in the door with organisations they may want to work for after graduating.

All students on the MSc Mathematical Trading and Finance (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/courses/masters/courses/mathem...) course will find themselves especially well prepared, often with the ability to enter into derivatives markets and work in trading floor positions at leading banks directly after graduation. Cass Business School’s dedicated Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters rooms accurately simulate the trading environment, further readying students for the exciting and fast paced world of trading.
