Facebook vs. Cocktail Party!!!

June 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Yep! You read that right, Facebook vs. Cocktail Party. You are probably thinking, what does Facebook have to do with a cocktail party? Almost everything! If you think about it, when you are at a cocktail party, you are there to meet people and share interesting stories, and maybe even make a few new friends. This is the same way you should approach the majority of your Facebook networking.

There is much more to successfully marketing on Facebook than just the occasional, but very important, status update. Taking a few minutes a day to reach out and “touch” the people on your friends list is crucial to staying at the top of their news feed. As you have probably noticed, if you haven’t interacted with someone in a while, you also haven’t seen many posts from them lately. That is because Facebook utilizes a specific strategy to track who you are most interested in hearing from. Why is this important to you? Because the same things is happening to your posts! If you aren't interacting, your posts probably aren't showing up in very many people’s news feeds.

Here is where the “cocktail party” mentality needs to come in to play. If you don’t contribute something interesting to the conversation, or don’t contribute at all, no one is going to notice you. Social Media Marketing, whether it is on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or Pinterest, is your own little cocktail party. You need to be interacting to be noticed, as this is not the place to be a “wallflower” if you want to make it worth your while.

So, here is what we suggest, take a few minutes out of each day. This can be all at once, or separated apart in 5 minute increments. Whenever you do it isn't as important as the fact that you are getting engaged in conversations. Here is how simple it is; “like” people’s statuses and/or pictures, leave a comment or two on a few pages or friends statuses, “share” a post from a large company or local business. That’s all it takes! Just a couple times interacting per day can increase the reach of your posts, both personal and business, across your audience’s pages.

So, make sure you are taking time each day for the following, even if it is just 15 minutes a day:

•   Post at least one status update per day, but preferably 2-3. (Separate them throughout the day.)

•   Make some of the posts a bit personal or funny, so that people can feel like they are getting to know you! (that “cocktail party mentality” again!)

•   Like and/or Share people’s statuses and pictures a few times a day.

•   Comment on some of the status posted a few times a day.

That’s it, just a few minutes a day will start to help increase your interaction and your overall reach across the different Social Media Networks.
