Capitol Seminars’ introductory and advanced lobbying seminars set for March 21-22

Host Ray LeBov, a 38-year veteran California lobbyist, sees more professionals exploring opportunities in governmental advocacy. His “Lobbying 101” and “Lobbying 201” seminars cover the fundamentals of advocacy and specialized practice areas.
March 8, 2013 - PRLog -- SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Capitol Seminars will next offer its introductory and advanced courses, “The Legislative Process / Lobbying 101” and “Lobbying 201,” on Thursday and Friday, March 21 and 22 respectively, from 8:30am – 1:30pm at  Meridian Plaza, Suite 1000, 1415 L Street in Sacramento. Capitol Seminars founder Ray LeBov, a veteran of 38 years working in and around the California Legislature, will host the seminars.

“Lobbying 101” provides a behind-the-scenes, real-world overview of the legislative process in California, along with an introduction to the fundamentals and best practices of effective advocacy. “Lobbying 201” features subject matter experts who provide personal insights into and best practices for the critical areas of budget advocacy, regulatory agency advocacy, media strategies, and lobbying the administration.

“We’ve noticed a trend over the past several months that our seminars are attracting not only more people, but people who have been in the business for a while,” says LeBov. “This includes, for example, attorneys who have worked in other practice areas and are now considering moving into advocacy.”

“As a result, we find that our seminars are running longer, but no one is complaining,” he adds. “We encourage interactivity, and when more and better questions are asked, that leads to livelier dialogue. We’re happy to provide not only great instruction, but networking opportunities for both novice and veteran advocates.

“Because of changes in the political landscape, thanks to term limits, redistricting, and top-two primaries, the demand for effective and resourceful advocates is only  going to grow, and we’re seeing more people considering a career in the field.”

Since its founding in 2006, Capitol Seminars has hosted more than 1500 enrollees in its introductory and advanced courses. Some firms and agencies send all their new staffers to these seminars for training.

The two seminars are designed not only for new and experienced lobbyists and their support staff, but for organizations that engage lobbyists; law firms; trade and professional associations; nonprofit and public interest organizations; city, county and public agency officials -- in short, anyone currently active in, or considering a career in, governmental advocacy or public affairs. Completion of “Lobbying 101” is recommended but is not a prerequisite for enrollment in “Lobbying 201.”

Cost of the seminars is $250 each. For more information or to enroll, visit http://www.capitolseminars.net or telephone 916-442-5009.
