Meridian Services to celebrate Social Work Day March 12, 2013

March 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Social Work Day helps provide recognition for the social workers and staff who provide services such as living services, case management, guardianship and others for Minnesota residents with disabilities. The event was conceived as part of Social Work Month, an annual celebration of one of the nation’s largest professions occurring in March.

“Because of our social workers’ tireless efforts, many Minnesota residents are able to live independent, fulfilled lives,” said Cheryl Vennerstrom, Chief Operating Officer for Meridian Services and its management agency, Orion Associates. “We will honor this commitment on Social Work Day, and for the entire month. People like Leann Thompson, the Executive Administrator of our Case Management Department and a licensed social worker herself, exemplify this dedication.  Under Leann’s leadership, our group has grown from six social workers in 2005 to the current number of licensed social workers today.” Vennerstrom added Leann Thompson is currently responsible for training and  supervision of Meridian social workers as well as numerous county and health plan contracts.

Meridian Services currently employs 61 licensed social workers and services over 3,500 clients within the state of Minnesota. Meridian has major contracts with Hennepin, Ramsey and Anoka Counties as well as several smaller counties. In addition, the organization has contracts with several providers including Medica and Metropolitan Health Plan.

“What I like best about social work is providing services to children and their families that help to keep them together as a family and ensure that they are all having a high quality of life,” said Nikki Froemming, LICSW, a social worker with Meridian Services. “I cannot think of a better or more rewarding job than keeping families together.”
