March 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Something exciting happened in this Latin city of sultry powder-white sandy beaches and pale moonlights. Participants at The Soho Loft and FundingPost event on Thursday, 28 February 2013 in Miami, Florida, escaped the lures of the beach and tried another kind of party at the Miami VC & Angel Conference.

The event is a convergence of early-stage Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists locking minds and bracing arms to help Miami startups and SMEs. The Soho Loft and FundingPost have hosted more than 200 sold-out venture events in 22 cities over the past 11 years. Yes, it’s like leaning on a rock-steady wall.

Entrepreneurs seeking capital met with investors, learned how to pitch their awesome ideas and many sealed the moment with funding that is just perfect for their needs. An idea that is ripe for launch or growth never lacked the right funding with valuable lessons learned from the event and workshop. The optional pitching workshop from 11am-1pm offered the participants a 2-minute pitching spot to the investors. As a fringe benefit to go with the event, entrepreneurs were able to submit a one-fourth-page summary of their company description and contact info to the investor speakers and attendees for future investing opportunities.

VC and Angel investors who spoke and shared their wisdom were:

Gregory Borchard, Managing Director at Caerus Ventures LLC.
Marc S. Billings of Incubate Miami and entrepreneur.
Franc Nemanic, an Angel Investor of New World Angels.
David Freschman is Managing Partner of Innovation Venture Fund.
Steve Repetti, an Angel Investor of Miami Innovation Fund.

To represent the crowd investing space, Maurice Lopes, co-founder of EarlyShares.com, a cutting edge online equity-based crowdfunding platform, also spoke in this event. EarlyShares.com has become one of the leading forces in the fast emerging crowdfunding industry that earned revenues of $1.5 billion in 2011 and almost doubled to $3 billion in 2012. The audience learned of alternative ways to secure funding, especially from the crowd via the internet. Set to double at $6B this year, this industry is poised to become a very powerful and democratic financial tool - disrupting the status quo. In the end all will be winners when exciting startups and amazing innovations are liberated to change various industries and serve communities.
