| Motivation Monday© ~ Why Does Sex Sell?In light of my upcoming book signing next Sunday, I thought I would share a series of thoughts and interpretations that I will address during my book signing on Sunday, March 10th at 4:00 at the Book Revue in Huntington, NY.
For many years and across many industries, some very smart people have interpreted Dr. Maslow’s brilliant Hierarchy of Needs, which is represented as a triangle, as a pyramid. People refer to it as a “pyramid.” In my book, “Who Are You?” I introduce my 21st Century Multidimensional Hierarchy of Needs. Does that mean I’m “smarter” than Dr. Maslow or have somehow, “one upped him.” Of course not. Dr. Maslow’s work is considered by many as the foundational study on human behavior and motivation. WHAT MOTIVATES PEOPLE? Well, we can assume that there are many things that “motivate” If we look at Dr. Maslow’s brilliant work, the fundamental or lowest level of need is that of “physiological needs” or “homeostasis.” One of the components of this fundamental, physiological need to exist is SEX. That’s right, SEX. In our somewhat sophisticated western world we tend to believe that we are somehow far advanced from our primitive brothers and sisters that lived in caves thousands of years ago. We tend to believe that there is little connection between us and other animals and even the domesticated animals in our homes. And yet, on the most fundamental level of existence, what “motivates” Why is pornography the most lucrative business online? Why does prostitution and sex trafficking still exist in the world? Why do so many of our TV ads include sexy images and models? That’s right, because “Sex Sells,” but also, because many people are still stuck in this primitive, less than evolved state of existence. Even in our sophisticated and “evolved” western “civilization” This week, I will post something each day as we move toward my book signing on Sunday, March 10th at 4:00 at The Book Revue in Huntington, NY. http://www.bookrevue.com/ End
