By: San Elijo Dance and Music Academy Hannah Kay Webb is a Junior at Carlsbad High School. In addition to her strong academics, Hannah loves to dance. Dancing for 13 years, 8 competitively at San Elijo Dance & Music Academy, Hannah is formally trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and hip hop. Hannah states, “Dancing with my studio has built my confidence as a performer. I have even been a Dancer of the Year finalist at a few dance competitions!” Hannah spends over 10 hours a week dancing at San Elijo Dance and Music Academy. The Academy offers a high level of dance classes to North County communities and focuses on technique, artistry, strength, flexibility, coordination, poise and confidence in a positive, creative atmosphere in Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip-hop in addition to Ballet. Ben Houk, co-director of San Elijo Dance & Music Academy enthusiastically states, "We are so proud of Hannah. It is exciting to see one of our own students take their talent and passion for dance and share it with the community. We wish her well in the pursuit of this dream." About Miss Carlsbad and Teen Carlsbad Scholarship Pageant: The Lions Club sponsors this program, which is designed to inspire leadership qualities, promote commitment to community, encourage academic excellence, and reinforce high ethical standards. The winners of the titles and their courts receive a total of $3,525 in scholarship money and become goodwill ambassadors for the City of Carlsbad and will appear at numerous grand openings and city and charitable functions. Much of their time is spent in community service. All net proceeds from the pageant are used for Lions community service projects or donated to various charitable organizations that support the sight and hearing impaired members of our community. Over the years, for example, our club has furnished more than 1,000 needy children in the Carlsbad area with eyeglasses and other sight services. Before co-directing their own academy, Directors Lauri-Michelle and Ben Houk were professional dancers and master instructors.
