March 1, 2013 - PRLog -- In a bid to ensure safe and healthy surroundings, DLF Foundation has yet again taken a step forward in fulfilling their corporate social responsibility by laying the foundation of solid waste management unit in Shikohpur village. DLF Foundation has undertaken the Cluster Village Development Program in 10 Villages of Gurgaon, in sync with the priority areas identified in the 12th five year plan. With years of immense recognition and fame as the premier real estate promoters and builders, DLF has taken upon its shoulder the duty and responsibility to repay the society by expressing commitment and sheer determination to empower communities, create opportunities and uplift the underprivileged to ensure a well built society.

DLF Foundation, the philanthropic arm of DLF Limited believes in the holistic approach to development and contributes to five major development areas: social, economic, environment, health, and education. By placing initial emphasis on Health and Social development however, a foundation is created from which further development can be sustained. The main objective of this programme is to improve the quality of life of people.

Health and sanitation play a pivotal role in the well being of an individual. The Cluster Village Development Programme undertakes to create awareness about clean surroundings amongst a 5000 strong population and to pledge for a better, cleaner tomorrow.

A shed christened ‘Kachre Se Kamai’, where the garbage would be collected and managed is being constructed at the outskirts of the village Shikohpur where few villagers would be engaged in sifting through the refuse, segregating them, giving ‘best out of waste’ an all new meaning. The project shall continue to motivate the villagers to segregate the dry (plastic, glass and the like) and the wet (kitchen and vegetable waste) waste in their homes and keep dustbins. Garbage collection carts shall bring this waste to the waste management centre and it will be segregated thereafter. Biodegradable waste will be collected daily and be disposed of either by feeding it off to cattle’s or by composting; packets of vermicompost prepared from kitchen waste shall be made available for sale.

To create a sense of ownership to the waste management programme, the village Panchayat will impose a moderate sanitation fee on all the households. The pilot project aims to signify that even garbage is useful if it is disposed and taken care of properly. As it succeeds in its endeavour, it will be replicated in the nearby villages. DLF Foundation has always been in the forefront to provide a healthy surroundings and undertaken efforts which serve for the well being of the society.
