Black History Month Celebrates Innovator Candice Price

Feb. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Urban American Outdoors was created in 1999 and made its TV debut in the fall of 2003 making her the first African American woman to own and produce a multicultural reality sports adventure show.

Mrs. Price acquired her degree in Communications with a concentration in Multimedia and a degree in Music, having a love for both disciplines inspired by her parents who had published their own local Newspaper. Candice has worked for various Media companies such as Scripps Howard, FOX, NBC, Gannett Outdoors, ABC Cap Cities, and Knight Ridder, to name a few. She has also written for various newspapers throughout the country on the subject or travel, lifestyle and outdoors.  Having a well-rounded media and music background, it was an easy transition into creating a TV show.  

As a television host and producer, Mrs. Price and Wayne Hubbard had an idea of doing an outdoor program with a different spin. Their mission was to embody the full Urban Outdoor Lifestyle. The audiences included are a multicultural demographic which is the emerging market as well as the traditional outdoor enthusiasts, women and children. Out of their initial brainstorming session, Urban American Outdoors was born and has run nonstop weekly since 2003 on various TV affiliates throughout the US and European markets.

Being partnered with expert outdoorsman Wayne Hubbard, Candice became more immersed in the outdoors lifestyle. On UAO, you will see fishing, hiking, scuba diving, motorsports hunting and cooking. Candice’s TV show is EMMY nominated and has won over 50 Broadcast and Cable Awards as well as received Proclamations, Resolutions and recognitions from Legislators, US Congress and Dignitaries. As a torch bearing pioneer, Candice has created annual outdoors events for urban youth to educate them about what it means to be an outdoorsman and a Summit to address outdoor issues as well as an awards luncheon to celebrate people of color who participate in the outdoors.  

In 2012, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack of the USDA appointed Mrs. Price to serve as the National Youth Representative to the Federal Advisory Committee for the Forest Service Planning Rule. The Forest Service Planning Rule came about when the National Forest Management Act (NFMA) of 1976 was passed. It requires that every national forest or grassland managed by the Forest Service to develop and maintain an effective Land Management Plan (also known as a Forest Plan).  The process for the development and revision of plans, along with the required content of plans, is outlined in planning regulations, often referred to as the planning rule (the 2012 Planning Rule is the current rule).
