Leading Swedish Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Targets UK Market

Feb. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- APL, one of Scandinavia’s leading contract developers and manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, plans to expand and grow its market across the UK, revealed the company’s Stockholm-based Life Science Business Manager Mattias Nystrom.

The 30-years-old, £50 million-turnover Swedish company, has identified the UK as one of Europe’s biggest and most vibrant markets and intends to offer its range of development and manufacturing services to British companies, including small to medium sized enterprises.

“We are looking to grow our market but we believe in growing by taking one step at a time,” said Mr Nystrom. “Our strength lies within supplying contract services for SME’s in the sector of orphan diseases, or very rare medical conditions, and other niche indications because we have vast experience in providing bespoke manufacturing services for smaller pharmaceutical companies.

“Here in Sweden we have a good reputation for the manufacture of niche products, orphan drugs and “specials” that need to be manufactured in relatively small quantities. That service is very important for small biotech companies, particularly for those organizations which operate in the research sector.

“Thanks to our experience in the sector, we were chosen for the manufacture of medicines to deal with the Swine flu outbreak a few years ago, when we were called upon to prepare children’s doses of Tamiflu. Our background in this field gives us the edge,” added Mr Nystrom.

“Our modern and cutting edge facilities mean we can manufacture a very wide range of pharmaceuticals in bespoke volumes and we believe this will appeal to a number of British companies, especially those in the SME sector.

“We have worked with and supplied a number of British companies over the years and we believe that APL can provide a valuable service to a wide range of businesses in terms of development and manufacture of pharmaceuticals.”

The 500 employee organization operates four modern production facilities across Sweden and works with more than 200 pharmaceutical clients.
