Backgammon is one of the oldest game in existence, dating back more than 5,000 years to ancient Mesopotamia. Though it was popularised by the Romans as a game called "Duodecum Scripta et Tabulae", or "Tables" for short, it has been played in various incarnations in nearly every civilization and is still popular today.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have a walnut, maple, and ebony combination backgammon & chess set available for £99.00. This posh set features a matte-finished, with a complete size 490 x 300 x 65 mm. The outside chess/draughts board is inlaid with three fine hardwoods, with a 55mm field for each square; the inside board is inlaid for backgammon with the same hardwoods, and includes stone holder and dice. The draughts and backgammon stones are all hardwood; the chessmen are weighted and hand-carved Staunton-design maple with natural and nut stained finish. The king measures 90mm.
