Bake for Family Fun Month Makes Baking A Family Affair!

Bake for Family Fun Month is the perfect time to share the goodness of baking with your family. Each week you will find designated recipes, baking activities and opportunities to spend time together in the kitchen.

Feb. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Discover the joys of family baking!  The fun begins with measuring, mixing followed by the delicious aroma of something baking in the oven!  Family laughter and chatter awaiting  a taste warm from the oven creates special family memories!

The Home Baking Association encourages families to spend time together in the kitchen.   Winter is the perfect time to warm-up the kitchen and bake together as a family.  Baking is an inexpensive family activity that provides delicious rewards says Charlene Patton, Home Baking Association Executive Director.  She suggests families visit the Home Baking Association web-site (HomeBaking.org (http://www.homebaking.org)).   Recipes, family baking activities and resources are available to help families have a positive experience when baking with children of all ages.

The Home Baking Association encourages families to allow extra time when baking as a family.  “Tips for Baking Success”, “Safe Kitchen Check List”, “Thrill of Skill” and many other resources are on the web-site to help parents determine appropriate age kitchen tasks for their children for baking success.  Additional free resources include: Book and Bake lessons, Baking Glossary, Kitchen Science Experiments, Baking Certificate, Memory Match Baking Game, video lessons and more.

Patton says “Baking teaches children life skills of cooking and making healthy eating choices.  Other benefits of baking together as a family include developing math, literacy, history/social studies, science and organizational skills while saving dollars.”  Families should celebrate their heritage and share treasured recipes that can be passed from one generation to the next.

Visit with grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family members to discover traditions and recipes that are unique to the family.  This is a great time to start collecting family recipes and documenting special traditions.  Families can even create new family traditions that children will look forward to for their family.

Start a family baking tradition and make homemade pizza on Friday night!  Fix breakfast together on the weekend with pancakes or waffles.  Let each family member take turns planning a menu and then the family can prepare it together.  Make the Designer Cookies  from the Baking with Friends book and create a signature cookie unique for the family!

The Home Baking Association mission is to share the benefits of home baking and provide resources to help anyone increase and share their baking skills. Thirty-eight members include corporations and associations that provide additional recipes and resources to perpetuate future generations of home bakers.
