Feb. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Chasen Galleries announced today that the Richmond-based art gallery will feature works by Sandhi Schimmel Gold, a contemporary artist renowned for “junk mail mosaics.”  The artist’s works have a wide and growing appeal through their aesthetic appeal, as well as their message about popular culture and sustainability.

"My work reflects our society's obsession with beauty through advertising - and the endless images that bombard us daily. I appropriate those images and create them anew,” said Sandhi Schimmel Gold.

Andrew Chasen, president of Chasen Galleries, believes that Schimmel’s work has a compelling and timely message.  “Visitors to Chasen Galleries will immediately grasp that Schimmel’s work is a purposeful intermix of images derived from advertising and thousands of incongruent pieces - images and text - that arrive through her mailbox,” Chasen said. Assembled like a mosaic; the junk mail paper tiles create an entirely new image - an eclectic and tactile portrait reworked in my imagination, employing manual dexterity and materials that would otherwise go to waste.

Schimmel joins the disciplines of painting & mosaic to create a connected collection of representational images in segments of vibrant color; pretty pictures that reflect a thought, concept or mood.
