Emterra’s Winnipeg Residential Waste Collection Service Earns 96% Satisfaction among Residents

Feb. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Winnipeg residents started receiving curbside waste and recyclables collection service from Emterra Environmental this fall, and fully 96% of residents recently polled in a public opinion survey seem satisfied with the new service.

Greg Mason, public opinion research expert and partner with Prairie Research Associates (Winnipeg office) who conducted the independent survey taken in January reveals that the results were “pretty good” and noted that most people view the score as acceptable.

The results were cited in the Winnipeg Sun article “Garbage on Time, 96% of the time: Independent Poll” (http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/02/07/garbage-on-time-96-of-the-time-independent-poll ) with Mason noting that past media coverage might not reflect the experience of the greater population. “We’ve seen a lot of media accounts, in terms of anecdotes, single instances of garbage not being picked up, so what we wanted to do was more of a scientific reading of how Winnipeggers were experiencing the system,” he said in the article. PRA conducted the survey of 480 respondents by randomly selecting phone numbers. PRA reports the size of the survey is statistically significant.

“Our instinct that what was represented in the media may not be what most Winnipeggers were experiencing.”  Mason added: "This is what happens when you have a new service... There are problems while the new service shakes down, and then the service seems to stabilize. At this point, even in the winter, the service now seems to have settled down."

The January polling of Winnipeg residents shows that nearly all residents in the community are reporting their curbside waste and recyclables are being picked up according to schedule.
