Girls 4 Science to host The Honorable Dot Harris on Feb 20th at Wendell Green School in Chicago.

Girls 4 Science (G4S), Chicago’s only all girls science initiative, will host the Honorable Dot Harris, Director of the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity U.S. Department of Energy at Wendell Green Elementary School Wednesday, February 20th.
 
Feb. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- (Chicago) – Girls 4 Science (G4S), (http://www.girls4science.org) Chicago’s only all girls science initiative, will host the Honorable Dot Harris, Director of the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity U.S. Department of Energy, for a special event at Wendell Green Elementary School this Wednesday, February 20th.  Harris will be addressing the students as part of the White House’s Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Speakers Bureau.

The White House Council on Women and Girls and Office of Science and Technology Policy formed the Bureau in September 2011. Their charge is to visit students across the country in an effort to spark middle and high school  girls’ interest in STEM programs.

“We are beyond thrilled to have the White House recognize our efforts and send Director Harris to address our students,” said Jackie Lomax, executive director of Girls 4 Science.  “This is wonderful validation of the work we’re doing to ready our girls for the challenges of the future.”

While the Girls 4 Science program is targeted to girls this special  invitation only program at Wendell Green will include all of the students

Girls 4 Science, founded in Chicago in 2008, strives to increase literacy for girls’ ages 10-18 through scientific discovery. Girls 4 Science will build a corps of women to mold the future of science, technology, engineering and math.  G4S accomplishes its mission by offering free six-week,  hands on enrichment programs for girls 10-18 years old at Chicago’s city colleges.  

About the White House Women in Stem Speakers Bureau

In September 2011, the White House Council on Women and Girls and Office of Science and Technology Policy launched the “Women in STEM Speakers Bureau”. Through the Bureau, high-ranking women in the Administration—all leading role models in their scientific and technical fields—visit with students across the country to spark the interest of middle and high school girls in STEM programs.
