Hospice of Michigan Seeks Volunteers

and Hosts Training Series in March

Grand Rapids, Michigan, February 18, 2013 –
In an effort to welcome new volunteers into the organization’s Grand Rapids community, Hospice of Michigan will hold a volunteer training series on Mar. 14, 21 and 28.

The series will be held at HOM’s Ada office, 989 Spaulding Ave. SE, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The office is currently looking for volunteers to support patient care, office administration and We Honor Veterans outreach, including:

Specialty programs, such as pet, music and aroma therapy

Home-made items, such as memory bears

Massage therapists, hair stylists

Celebratory events, including making birthday cakes, arranging fresh flowers

Bedside vigils

“Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization,” said Ann Thomas, volunteer services manager. “Whether it’s offering a listening ear while holding a hand, providing a back rub or haircut or helping with household chores, volunteering with Hospice of Michigan can be a life-changing experience – for our volunteers and the patients and families they serve.”

Those interested in attending the upcoming HOM volunteer training series can register at https://www.hom.org/?page_id=1239 or by contacting Thomas at 616.356.5227.

For those who have experienced a loss, Hospice of Michigan encourages a waiting period of one year prior to becoming a volunteer in order to allow for processing of grief.
