Feb. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- A brand new e-learning website has been launched to help thousands of Jamaicans develop their skills, enhance their CVs and improve their career prospects.

LearnJamaica.com is a new online portal which has been created to complement other traditional learning methods and give people the chance to improve their core skills and competencies, all at their own pace and from the comfort of their own home.

Courses cover a vast range of topics, such as business studies, web design, IT, office skills and Microsoft training packages, designed to appeal to jobseekers, those looking to enhance their career prospects or secure a promotion, mature learners and stay at home mums, among others.

As well as the courses, there is an online community, live conference calls, events and master classes, a blog and a membership forum, making it more than an educational platform but one which helps people connect to others in a safe and interactive way.

The site also provides access to work-from-home projects, business tips, tools and articles and resources aimed at helping people to build or improve their resume.

According to the site founders, Micah & Francene Mullings, the site will encourage those who previously struggled to gain access to high quality education due to cost or their lack of previous education to start their career journey or enhance their existing skills.

Francene said: “There are literally thousands of Jamaican people who, for whatever reason, have previously struggled to access high quality, flexible and affordable education. While learnjamaica.com won’t replace traditional education, we do believe it can provide an accessible alternative or one which will sit alongside other training.

“Courses have been designed to assist so many different people – those who have never worked and lack basic CV writing or interview skills right through to those looking to take their next step up the career ladder or set up their own business.

“It’s a resource for people to use, and what’s more, it’s affordable. You don’t even need a credit card to apply – people can pay for their course at their local bank.”

Future plans for the website include incorporating a resume builder and distributor, providing access to a work experience database, access to teachers for support to those completing their CSEC from home and access to partnership colleges offering discounts on fees.
