| Long Island Nursery Announces Native Plant DivisionCountry Gardens Nursery announces its Long Island Natives division devoted to growing native species for the restoration industry.
Brad Gettinger, President of Country Gardens Nursery said, “Production of native plants has become a key component of our overall portfolio and we are proud to be recognized as a major player in this category.” The creation of the Long Island Natives division will allow the nursery to continue to build a name in the restoration industry while maintaining the core business’ brand identity that has supplied landscape sized plant material to landscape professionals for over 60 years. “We learned a lot about the production of native plants through our contract growing project with New York City Parks and its Natural Resources Group” says Gettinger. The 8 ½ year contract growing project was started in 2009 by New York City’s Parks Department as one of the city’s PlaNYC initiatives, a plan “to build a greener, greater New York.” The Long Island Natives division has added several additional species to the list of plants grown since 2009 and now offers a wide variety of both woody and herbaceous species native to the greater New York region. To help communicate the Long Island Natives brand a separate website was recently launched, longislandnatives.com, and offers customers a gallery of images showcasing the nursery’s crops along with a list of available species. About Long Island Natives Long Island Natives is a division of Country Gardens Nursery, a wholesale nursery in Eastport, NY.
