Honda Wins the First-Ever Driving Engagement Award at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show
The award recognizes Honda’s participation and engagement in social media, connecting with fans and customers of dealerships like Bosak Honda.
For the award, Honda submitted a video from a music group Monsters Calling Home, recorded in the back of their Honda. Honda responded to the video by surprising the group with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! They then used all of the Honda social media outlets to promote the story as part of their “Honda Loves You Back” campaign.
Word of Mouth Marketing Association also selected Nissan and Dodge as finalists in the competition. Overall, the organization was pleased with how much the automotive industry was engaging in social media in 2012. In particular, they cited car brands adapting to newer social platforms like Pinterest, creating engaging video content and using humor to promote their brands. They were pleased how auto brands were engaging with their fans and promoting burgeoning artists like Monsters Calling Home. The company is a trade association focused on social media and word of mouth marketing founded in 2004.
The 2013 Chicago Show is currently ongoing until February 18th, 2013. This is the largest auto show in North America with an exhibit space covering more than 1 million square feet. It hosts many different vehicles from around the world and every year raises $2 million for 18 different Chicago charities during their First Look for Charity opening night.
