James Dicks presents Orlando Mayor John Hugh "Buddy" Dyer with Patriot Award.  

James Dicks, Director of Information and Technology for Department of Defense Florida ESGR presented Orlando Mayor John Hugh "Buddy" Dyer with Patriot Award. City employees that are currently attached to the U S Naval & Marine Corps Reserve Center located at Orlando, FL nominated the Mayor for the award.

The award recognizes supervisors and bosses nominated by a Guardsman or Reservist employee for support provided directly to the nominator. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.  

James Dicks, a former U.S. Marine, completely supports the USERRA that protects employees currently assigned to the National Guard or Reserves.  Dicks spends a large amount of time in support of the troops “Today’s active duty members of the U.S. military, whether Guard or Reserve, continually put their lives on hold for the good our great nation.  It is our responsibility as good Americans to assist them in any way possible.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense organization; a staff group within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs (OASD/RA), which is in itself a part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense.  ESGR was established in 1972 during the Vietnam War and operates through a network of thousands of volunteers throughout the nation and Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
